Book Nook: Nonflict - The Art of Everyday Peacemaking

As children spend more time at home, it often leads to more conflicts with more time together - over food, sleep, toys, and more. Parents often respond with "because I said so" or consequences that don't necessarily fit the situation. However, this can leave both parents and kids frustrated at not being heard or understood, and misses out on a great chance to teach conflict resolution.

I recently had the chance to review a book written by internationally-recognized experts on conflict resolution Dr. Amir Kfir and Stephen Hecht, MBA, and co-founders of Million Peacemakers. Together, Dr. Kfir and Hecht, who have worked with organizations, universities and companies to empower people to transform conflict into ‘Nonflict' through a simple and effective conflict resolution model: The Nonflict Way. Supported by their over fifty years of combined practical work and life experience in the field of conflict management, their internationally award-winning model closely examines the concept of co-creating as a resolution to daily experiences with conflict.

The book,  Nonflict: The Art of Everyday Peacemaking has a wealth of information for parents to use that can help avoid conflicts before they start, or de-escalate the situation when it seems headed for a conflict. It was easy to read, and full of practical advice - some things that I had already started to use with my kids, but also even more ideas for when my younger, more strong-willed daughter tries to get into a power struggle.

Dr. Amir Kfir is an organizational psychologist with Amirror, co-founder of Million Peacemakers, creator of The Nonflict Way, and has facilitated Peace Action Forums globally, including Israeli-Arab, Arab-American, Greek-Turkish, Armenian-Turkish, and Jewish-Muslim forums. For over 25 years, Dr. Kfir has been helping companies worldwide in organizational transformation and has been a leader in the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) and Peace Action Network (PAN) forum methodology process.
Stephen Hecht, President and Chief Executive Peacemaker of Million Peacemakers, is the winner of numerous national, international, business and community awards and is a leader in YPO. With over 30 years in private and public businesses, divorce, re-marriage, kids and step-kids, Hecht has experienced many conflicts and shares some of the lessons learned from his own journey and some from the triumphs of the many he has helped. He has an MBA from the Ivey Business School at Western University.

Nonflict: The Art of Everyday Peacemaking is currently available on Amazon and through all major booksellers and internationally.
